Porn or sex addiction can be defined as a life-interfering pattern of behavior, including three
or more of the following:
1) Due to increasing tolerance,
there is greater frequency or duration of the behavior required to achieve the desired effect.
2) There is an increased level of moodiness, irritability, or fixation in the absence of the addictive
behavior.
3) The behavior is acted out in larger amounts or over longer time periods than intended.
4) There is a persistent desire or unsuccessful effort to cut down or control the behavior.
5) The behavior is continued despite knowledge of having a persistent psychological problem.
Do some
of these descriptions remind you of your own personal struggle with pornography or sexual activity?
If so, then
it's likely you're dealing with an addiction, or dependence.
If so, my guess is that you feel alone in this struggle
and alone with your secrets.
Of course, it's very difficult to confide in friends and family
about this kind of problem.
Will they judge? Will they understand?
Allow me to offer you a helping hand.
Helping people through such times and circumstances is what I
do.
I believe that working together, you can make this a time you'll look back on as
a turning point; a time when your self-esteem and relationships were renewed and strengthened.
Building a plan for your recovery.
Effective treatment for pornography and sex addiction
includes a solid recovery plan. It should empower you to make changes now and enable you to stay on a healthier path
moving forward. With my training and experience, I will help you build such a plan based on your specific, personal needs.
1) Planning for your
ongoing abstinence from unwanted behaviors with a complete and in-depth relapse-prevention strategy.
2) Developing important
self-awareness and personal growth through a therapeutic exploration of your life story and sexual history.
3) Discovering
how your sexual and relational style is working against you.
4) Working to regain the trust of loved ones. Here, my
experience providing couples and marriage therapy can also come into play. Whether you choose to include your partner for this part of the process, or not, I
will get you up to speed on relationship skills such as non-defensive communication and anger-management.
Go ahead and contact me. We'll schedule a free 30 minute in-office consultation
